Terms and Conditions
Vehicle rental terms 2026/2027 of Go Rent 4x4 Rentals and Tours CC. This is a summary of the Go Rent 4x4 Rental Agreement that you sign at our office when you collect the vehicle; the signed agreement governs. If anything is unclear, WhatsApp us on +264 81 858 1750.
1. The renter, drivers & vehicle
The renter
The person who signs the Rental Agreement (“you”, “the Renter”) is solely responsible for:
paying all rental fees, insurance waiver fees, penalties and fines;
full compliance with the agreement, including speed limits and restricted-area rules;
supervising all additional drivers and passengers — their actions are your liability.
Driver requirements
Drivers must be aged 23 to 65, with a licence held for at least 1 year.
No age surcharge; we do not take bookings for drivers under 23 or over 65.
If your driving licence is not in English, you also need a valid International Driving Permit (IDP). No copies accepted.
Additional drivers
Only the Renter and the drivers listed in the agreement may drive. Each must show a valid licence at pick-up.
The first additional driver is free. Each further driver costs N$350 once per rental, payable at collection.
The Renter stays fully liable for any breach by an additional driver.
The vehicle
The vehicle remains the property of Go Rent at all times. Go Rent may recover it immediately if the agreement is seriously breached.
2. Insurance options & security deposits
One insurance option is compulsory. The security deposit is the customer portion of your option. It is refunded within 7 days after return if there is no damage.
1 · Basic Cover — Premium Option N$230 / day, Classic Option N$195 / day, Security deposit N$45,000
2 · Extended Cover — Premium Option N$320 / day, Classic Option N$270 / day, Security deposit N$30,000
3 · Premium Cover (zero excess on covered claims) — Premium Option N$490 / day, Classic Option N$415 / day, Security deposit N$0
Windscreen & tyre cover — N$180 per day. Covers 1 windscreen per rental, and 1 tyre for rentals up to 21 days or 2 tyres for longer rentals. Rims are always excluded.
Cross-border & remote collection deposit — N$30,000. Required for travel into Botswana or any other country outside Namibia, and when we collect the vehicle from a remote area. It is in addition to the deposit above (see section 6.2).
Important. Whichever option you choose, some damage is never covered — see sections 3 and 5.
3. Never covered — always the renter’s cost
The following is never covered under any insurance option. You pay all repair, replacement and recovery costs in full:
Windscreen — only covered with the windscreen & tyre cover
Side, rear and canopy windows
Side mirrors
Rims — full replacement value at OEM product cost for any rim damage
Missing rims or tyres — full OEM replacement value
Tyres beyond the cover limit (1 tyre up to 21 days, 2 tyres for longer rentals)
Steering damage — potholes, rocks, kerbs or off-road driving
Excessive scratches from trees, branches, bush or vegetation
Sandblast / sandstorm damage to paint or glass
Single-vehicle accidents — rollovers, collisions with animals or objects
Stationary objects — walls, poles, gates, trees, rocks
Tyre blowout damage — blowouts, loose wheel nuts, broken studs, jack misuse
Lost or damaged camping gear — camping equipment is not insured
Negligence or misuse of the vehicle (section 5)
4. Speed limits, traffic laws & GPS tracking
4.1 Go Rent contract speed limits
Our contract limits apply even where road signs allow more.
Town / built-up area: 60 km/h
Gravel road — good condition: 80 km/h
Gravel road — corrugated / poor condition: 60 km/h
National tarred highway: 110 km/h
Safari / 8-seater: 100 km/h
4x4 High Range (off-road): 60 km/h
4x4 Low Range (off-road): 10 km/h
National parks: 40 km/h
Zero tolerance on speeding. Our vehicles are GPS-tracked and there are no warnings. Each speeding event costs a N$1,500 penalty and cancels your insurance for the rest of the rental. From that moment you are personally liable for all damage to the vehicle — including damage that has nothing to do with the speeding.
4.2 GPS tracking
Every vehicle records speed, location and route by GPS at all times. By signing, you agree to this.
Go Rent may share GPS data with insurers, law enforcement and courts. Our insurer has live GPS access and refuses cover immediately if speeding is detected.
GPS data is primary evidence for speeding, No-Go entry or cancelled insurance. You keep the right to dispute its accuracy.
4.3 Namibian traffic laws
Breaking any Namibian traffic law cancels the insurance and may lead to further penalties.
Drive on the LEFT at all times.
Seatbelts for all occupants.
Zero alcohol — stricter than Namibian law.
Headlights always on while driving.
Obey stop signs and red lights.
No overtaking on blind rises, curves or with poor visibility.
No phone use while driving (hands-free allowed).
4.4 Traffic fines
Traffic fines are the renter’s responsibility, plus a N$450 admin fee per fine.
4.5 Insurance in Southern Africa is not “fully comprehensive”. Namibian insurance covers two-vehicle collisions where both vehicles are identified. It does not cover single-vehicle incidents, negligence, rollovers, hitting animals or objects, getting stuck, choosing the wrong drive mode, or anything in sections 3 and 5 — whatever option you choose. Many local vehicles carry no insurance at all.
5. Exclusions & renter responsibilities
5.1 Events not covered by insurance
You pay the full cost plus a 20% admin fee. “Replacement value” is the cost of an equivalent vehicle as set by an independent Namibian dealer; a rolled or written-off vehicle is a total loss with no salvage value deducted.
Vehicle overturned or written off — 20% of replacement value (towing and admin extra)
Driving outside Namibia or in prohibited zones without written approval
Driving after sunset outside towns — also to lodges
Anything after the agreed return date
Burns — cigarettes, flames or any heat source
Standing on, or heavy loads on, the roof, bonnet or doors
Rollovers under any circumstances
Windows (side, rear, canopy) and side mirrors
Rim damage, missing rims or tyres — OEM replacement value
Tyres beyond the cover limit
Water crossings deeper than axle depth, never above 700 mm — check the depth on foot first
Sandstorm / sandblast damage
Personal belongings — theft or loss
Interior damage beyond normal wear
Driving with the rooftop tent open or partly open
Camping equipment — loss or damage
Gearbox or engine damage from incorrect operation
Underbody and body damage from rocks or off-road collisions
Scratches and paint damage from vegetation
Lost keys — N$6,500 plus travel or courier costs
Wrong fuel (e.g. petrol in a diesel) — cancels all cover
Accidents in rest camps, campsites, lodge or hotel grounds
Any accident without a police report
5.2 Events that cancel ALL insurance immediately
Read carefully. Any one of these cancels all cover at once, including Premium Cover. You then pay for all damage — even damage unrelated to the event.
Speeding above the contract limits
Alcohol or drugs at any level
Invalid licence — expired, suspended or not recognised in Namibia
Sand dunes, beaches, off-piste or unmarked tracks
Driving into rivers, swamps, the sea or flood areas
Ignoring red lights or stop signs
Areas of civil unrest or riots
Towing a trailer or another vehicle
Transporting goods against customs laws
Any accident after sunset outside a town
Using 4x4 mode on tar or hard surfaces
A driver not listed in the agreement
Entering a No-Go area (section 6)
Commercial use — carrying passengers or goods for payment
5.3 Negligence & vehicle abuse
Negligence is anything a reasonable person would see as careless, improper or against the manufacturer’s guidelines. Its costs are always yours, whatever cover you chose. For example:
driving with the rooftop tent open or unsecured;
standing, sitting or loading heavy items on the bonnet, roof, doors or tents;
overloading the vehicle;
commercial use, racing, timed events or off-road competitions;
not checking tyre pressures for sand, gravel or tar;
reversing into objects, trees, walls or buildings;
driving through vegetation that scratches the paint or breaks mirrors;
ignoring our handover advice on 4x4 use, tyre pressures or road conditions.
5.4 Tyres & rims
Damaged tyre: stop safely, fix the puncture or fit the spare straight away.
If the spare is used, buy a matching branded replacement tyre and tell us immediately.
Rims are never covered, not even by the windscreen & tyre cover. Bent, cracked, scuffed or kerbed rims, and any rim or tyre missing at return, are charged at OEM replacement value per item, plus fitting, balancing and transport.
5.5 Sandstorms
Slow down or pull over safely. Sandblast damage to paint or glass is never covered.
5.6 Theft of the vehicle
Theft is covered only if all four apply: the vehicle was parked in a safe place; all doors, windows and the canopy were locked; you still have the original keys; and a police report was made within 24 hours. Otherwise you are liable for the full replacement value.
5.7 Police report within 24 hours
Report every accident, theft or incident to the police within 24 hours. Without a police report no insurance claim can be processed, and you carry all costs.
5.8 Handover & return
Both parties sign a condition report at handover. Damage not recorded there is the renter’s liability.
The vehicle and all risk stay with you until Go Rent formally records the return.
After-hours returns: keys must be secured, and the risk stays with you until our inspection on the next business day.
6. No-Go areas & travel outside Namibia
6.1 Namibia — No-Go areas (strictly prohibited)
N$30,000 penalty payable — and no insurance. Entering any No-Go area, by accident or on purpose, costs a penalty of N$30,000 payable, cancels all insurance immediately and permanently, and makes you liable for all damage on top of the penalty. GPS data is the evidence. No exceptions. This penalty applies only to the No-Go areas below.
Van Zyl’s Pass
Khaudum National Park
Sandwich Harbour
Sperrgebiet (Diamond Areas 1 & 2)
Skeleton Coast north of Möwe Bay
Remote Damaraland backcountry (unmarked tracks)
Diamond Coast / Bogenfels area
Off-piste dunes near Walvis Bay and Swakopmund
Driving on any beach
Any unmarked road not gazetted or maintained by the Namibia Roads Authority
6.2 Botswana & other countries — separate rules
Botswana: permitted — see the caution areas below.
South Africa: written itinerary approved before departure.
Zimbabwe: Victoria Falls area only, with prior written approval, and only via Botswana — cross at the Kazungula border to Victoria Falls and come back the same way.
Not permitted: Zambia, Angola, and any other country not approved by us in writing.
6.2.1 Botswana — travel with caution
Permitted, but demanding: deep sand, heavy mud, water crossings, fragile salt pans and little or no phone signal.
Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR)
Moremi Game Reserve / Okavango Delta
Savuti
Makgadikgadi Pans
Nxai Pans
Cut lines and hunting areas without maintained roads
The No-Go penalty does not apply here; the cross-border deposit and the breakdown rule below do.
6.2.2 Cross-border deposit — N$30,000
Required before departure for any travel outside Namibia, in addition to your insurance deposit. Refunded 7 days after return if there is no damage.
6.2.3 Breakdowns outside Namibia are the renter’s responsibility
Our roadside assistance covers Namibia only.
You arrange and pay for recovery and repair. If it cannot be repaired on site, you get the vehicle, at your cost, to the nearest authorised Toyota dealer or back into Namibia — whichever is reasonably possible first.
We cannot supply a replacement vehicle there, and we are not liable for any loss, cost or delay from a breakdown outside Namibia.
If the vehicle cannot be driven outside Namibia, you pay all costs to bring it back: towing, recovery, transport, import/export documents, customs duties and third-party charges.
6.2.4 Third-party cover & road permits
Namibian insurance does not automatically extend across borders. You buy any third-party insurance or road permit needed at the border (e.g. Botswana or Zimbabwe) before crossing. We supply the cross-border documents (N$850 per vehicle). We are not responsible if you are turned back, fined or delayed at a border without the required cover or permit.
Road conditions. Deep sand, heavy mud in the wet season, corrugated gravel, severe potholes and water crossings. A high-clearance 4x4 and an experienced driver are essential; a guided convoy is strongly recommended.
7. Rental period, return & fees
Minimum rental 24 hours (or part of it). Unlimited kilometres unless the quotation says otherwise. Visa and Mastercard accepted. All rates include VAT.
7.1 Office hours & returns
Office hours are 07:30 to 16:00, Monday to Friday. Weekend or public-holiday returns must be arranged in advance. Returns outside the agreed time carry an after-hours fee.
7.2 Late return
The daily rate plus N$3,500 per extra day or part of a day. Ask for an extension at least 2 days before the agreed return date.
7.3 Early return
No refund or credit for an early return.
7.4 Fuel
Full to full. If the tank is not full: N$250 plus the missing fuel. Wrong fuel is negligence — you pay all repair and recovery costs.
7.5 Cleanliness
No smoking or vaping in the vehicle. Very dirty vehicle: N$1,750 valet fee. Heavy scratches needing paint correction: N$3,500 polishing fee. Burn marks or ash damage: full interior repair cost. Unauthorised stickers or signs: N$400 removal fee each.
7.6 Insurance claims
A N$5,000 claims handling fee (the insurer’s admin fee) applies to every claim, regardless of fault.
7.7 Cancellation
More than 30 days before pick-up: 50% of the deposit paid is refunded. Less than 30 days before pick-up: no refund.
8. Breakdowns, towing & roadside assistance
Our vehicles are carefully serviced before every rental. Breakdowns are rare but can happen, especially in remote areas where help may take long. Go Rent is not liable for any loss, extra expense, missed connections, changed plans, accommodation costs or other direct or indirect damage caused by a breakdown. Outside Namibia, breakdowns are always the renter’s responsibility (section 6.2.3).
Never tow or pull any vehicle or object with the rental vehicle.
In a breakdown, call us immediately. Do not arrange your own towing or repairs.
Only Go Rent-approved recovery companies may be used; unapproved towing or repairs cancel all cover.
If the breakdown is not covered by insurance, you pay all recovery, towing and repair costs.
9. Liability, indemnity & governing law
9.1 Assumption of risk
Driving in Namibia and neighbouring countries carries risks — remote areas, wildlife, extreme roads and weather. By signing, you accept these risks.
9.2 Indemnity
You indemnify Go Rent 4x4 Rentals and Tours CC against all claims, losses, damages and legal actions arising from your or an additional driver’s use of the vehicle, any breach of the agreement or Namibian law, or death, injury or property damage caused by your negligence or misconduct.
9.3 Release of liability
You release Go Rent from liability for personal injury (including death) or property damage, except where caused by Go Rent’s own gross negligence as decided by a competent Namibian court.
9.4 No consequential damages
Go Rent is not liable for indirect losses such as missed flights, accommodation, lost income or tour bookings.
9.5 Loss of use
If you declined insurance and the vehicle is off the road for repairs, you also pay our lost rental income at the daily rate for up to 60 days.
9.6 Credit checks & default
You agree to a credit check and, if you do not pay, to us sharing payment information with credit bureaux and debt collectors.
9.7 Governing law
Namibian law applies. Disputes are heard in the Magistrate’s Court or High Court of Namibia in Windhoek. If one clause is invalid, the rest stays in force.
9.8 Entire agreement
The signed Rental Agreement (and any signed addenda) is the entire agreement. Verbal promises are not binding; changes are valid only in writing, signed by an authorised Go Rent representative.
9.9 Personal information
We process your personal information under Namibian data-protection law, only for rental administration, credit checks, GPS monitoring, insurer communication and debt recovery. We never sell it, and only disclose it where the law or the agreement requires.
